Zelle app

Case Study: Designing the Zelle App for Citigold Customers Background While the millennial population has effortlessly adopted Venmo, Zelle is targeting Baby Boomers and Gen Xers. Its service comes already integrated into the participating bank’s app or can be downloaded as a standalone app. The money is transferred from one bank account to another instantly through Zelle. The number of users has reached 151 million. The Challenge Not only did we have to design the app, but we also had to persuade users who were already using PayPal and Venmo to switch to Zelle, which offers a free peer-to-peer (P2P) payment service, unlike PayPal and Venmo. Objectives The overall objective was to design a Zelle app for Citi, tailored explicitly for Citigold customers, to create a desktop experience, and to develop story marketing pages that showcase the payment service. My Role Our team, comprising a copywriter, project manager, account manager, and two UX/UI Designers (including me), was onsite at the Citi corporate office in Long Island City to collaborate with their product team and bring this app to life. 1. Wireframes: I worked with UX to finalize the wires before and during production. 2. Design System: My role was to take Citi's design system and design the user interface for both the mobile app and the desktop experience. 3. Marketing Pages: Create marketing and landing pages for both desktop and mobile breakpoints. 4. Presentation: Present our designs to Product Managers and implement feedback. Results America’s surge in social distancing and a general reluctance to touch things led to a rise in Zelle use. Since the start of March 2020, enrollments in Zelle increased at “more than double-digit rates above average.” The company also stated that 2,200 financial institutions had been contracted to participate in the Zelle network, and that customers of nearly 7,000 financial institutions utilized Zelle. The company stated that since March, more than half of the individuals sending money via the network have been between the ages of 25 and 54, and that use among baby boomers aged 55-72 has also been increasing. ACI Worldwide stated that it expects global real-time payments to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.4% between 2019 and 2024. In the United States, the anticipated yearly compound growth rate was 42.1%. Overall, Zelle reported significant growth in 2019. In a January 2020 release, the company reported that it processed $1 trillion in payments via 3.6 billion transactions in 2024, representing year-over-year growth of 27% and 25%, respectively.
